The most important timing parts to replace inside a Northstar. These two parts are the most common to wear out. The primary timing chain tensioner almost always needs replacement if the engine has 60,000 miles or more. They can last longer but once grooves are worn in from the chain, it should be replaced with new. The bushing inside the sprocket tends to wear also, which is why it needs replacement.

Cam Timing / timing chains are easy to re-set on a Northstar. No special tools are needed and if you take your time, you won't get it wrong.
